FRNSW RECRUITMENT STEPS & HOW THE AFA CAN HELP
Step 1: Application & Online Testing
Candidates complete an online application and psychometric assessments, including cognitive, emotional intelligence, and mechanical reasoning tests. AFA’s Resume Builder Course ensures applications are polished and professional, while the Cognitive Aptitude Course prepares candidates for verbal, numerical, abstract reasoning, and mechanical reasoning assessments. The Psychometric Personality Course helps candidates understand and perform well in emotional intelligence evaluations.
Step 2: Video Interview
Candidates are invited to complete a short video interview focusing on their understanding of the firefighter role and motivation. AFA’s Online Interview Course equips candidates with the skills to confidently present themselves and deliver impactful, structured responses.
Step 3: Supervised Verification Tests
Candidates verify their initial psychometric test results in a supervised environment. AFA’s Cognitive Aptitude Course reinforces candidates’ readiness to confirm their scores with confidence.
Step 4: Physical Aptitude Test (PAT)
Candidates complete a series of physical tests, including a mandatory induction session. AFA’s PAT Course provides tailored training to build the strength, endurance, and functional fitness required to excel in the physical demands of the PAT.
Step 5: Assessment Centre
Candidates participate in interviews, group activities, and a Work Style Assessment. AFA’s Panel Interview Course prepares candidates for structured, behaviour-based interview questions, while the Group Interview Course enhances teamwork and communication skills to excel in group activities.
Step 6: Employment Checks
Candidates undergo reference checks, driving history reviews, and criminal records checks. AFA’s Application Readiness Course ensures candidates meet all documentation requirements, providing guidance on compiling necessary reports and checks.
Step 7: Medical Assessment
Candidates complete comprehensive medical evaluations, including tests and assessments to determine fitness for firefighting duties. The Medical Screening Course guides candidates in preparing documentation and understanding FRNSW’s health standards to ensure compliance.
Step 8: Offer of Employment
Successful candidates receive a formal offer to join the recruit training program. AFA’s Recruit Course Prep ensures candidates are mentally and physically prepared for training, while Fortnightly Online Sessions with Firefighters provide mentorship and support to ease the transition into their new role.
