ACTFR RECRUITMENT STEPS & HOW THE AFA CAN HELP
Stage 1: Application
Candidates begin by submitting an online application. AFA’s Resume Builder Course ensures applications are professional and impactful, while the Application Readiness Course helps candidates confirm eligibility and complete all necessary documentation.
Stage 2: Online Assessment
Candidates complete aptitude tests and submit online responses. The Cognitive Aptitude Course prepares candidates for reasoning assessments, while the Online Interview Course ensures confident and professional written and video responses.
Stage 3: Beep Test (Cardiovascular Challenge)
Candidates are tested on cardiovascular endurance, requiring a level of 9.6 to pass. AFA’s Beep Test/Shuttle Run Course provides tailored training to build stamina and pacing for success.
Stage 4: Group Exercise
This stage tests teamwork and communication through group assessments. AFA’s Group Interview Course helps candidates develop collaborative skills and excel in group exercises.
Stage 5: Physical Aptitude Test (PAT)
Candidates complete physical tasks to demonstrate strength and endurance. The PAT Course builds functional fitness and prepares candidates for the physical demands of this stage.
Stage 6: Panel Interview
Candidates participate in formal interviews to demonstrate their suitability for the role. AFA’s Panel Interview Course prepares candidates to deliver structured, impactful responses aligned with ACT Fire & Rescue values.
Stage 7: Medical and Psychometric Assessments
Candidates undergo medical evaluations and personality assessments. The Psychometric Personality Course helps candidates succeed in personality evaluations, while the Medical Screening Course ensures candidates are prepared with required documentation and meet medical standards.
Post-Employment: Recruit Training
After receiving an offer of employment, candidates begin firefighter training. The Recruit Course Prep builds physical and mental readiness for training success, while Fortnightly Online Sessions with Firefighters provide mentorship and ongoing guidance throughout the process.
